Tom James (Owner and Head Coach) a.k.a Jammo

Tom has been a Rugby player since leaving Llandovery college in 2008 and has represented his country at junior levels. During his rugby career he’s had stints with the Scarlets, Scarlets Academy , Llandovery and for the last 5 years he has applied his trade at Neath RFC winning numerous premiership titles, Premiership Player awards.

In 2009 he started doing Crossfit as part of his rehab programme following knee reconstruction to get back to fitness, tom said I was advised to start CrossFit, my first session was awesome, the members were very welcoming and helped me no end. I thought I was strong and fit until I started Crossfit and I realised as rugby player if I wasn’t doing some form of CrossFit I was missing out. I loved the whole community/team aspect coming from a rugby background which pushed me at sessions and developed an intensity which you don’t get training as an individual.

At the start of 2012 season Tom had another serious knee injury which required surgery for the second time, although a huge set back in rugby terms this also gave him plenty time to set up and make plans for Crossfit Aberystwyth and has never looked back, Tom now balances his rugby commitments with Neath and day to day running of the gym.

As one of the original members of CrossFit Aberystwyth - I'm kinda part of the furniture...

It all started two years ago. I immediately took to CrossFit as the constant variety fed my short attention span and keeps boredom at bay.

Completed the CrossFit level 1 certification a year ago and have been coaching regular classes since. Currently undertaking Weighlifting level 1 and a BTEC diploma in sports massage.
